About this service
Operation Newstart Casey is a personal development program for youth ‘at risk’ aged between 14 – 16 years of age, who reside within the City of Casey. The eight-week life skills and adventure based program is delivered by education, YSAS and headspace staff. Students are referred from select Casey Government secondary schools.

Eligibility criteria
The program caters for secondary school students aged 14 to 16 who are considered to be at risk of disengagement from education. Referrals are only accepted via financial partner schools to the Operation Newstart Casey program.

Participation length
- The program runs over a period of eight weeks during a school term. Students attend the program three days a week and their base school two days a week.

Specific exclusions
Students referred to the program need to have a very basic level of physical ability/fitness in order to complete the large variety of activities undertaken on the program. Activities may include TAFE, hiking, water sports, bike riding, rock-climbing/abseiling, CFA training and much more.

Who can refer
- Referrals are only accepted via financial partner schools to the Operation Newstart Casey program. These schools include Alkira, Berwick, Cranbourne, Fountain Gate, Gleneagles, Hampton Park, Kambrya, Lyndhurst, Narre P-12 and Timbarra. Referrals are usually made by school student welfare or year level co-ordinator staff.
